Giveaway Day

Just in time for all those fresh fruits and vegetables you'll be harvesting in the next few months I'm offering up these cute cloth produce bags. Not growing your own fruits and veges ? Then take them to the grocery store with you and use them in place of those nasty plastic sacks. These produce bags are made from flour sack material so will weigh just a tad, but not as much as the cost of an apple.
For the chance to win this set of 2, just leave me a comment along with your favorite "Green" tip.
This Giveaway is open until mid night on Sunday 31st May 2009. If you're an international reader, don't be shy, this one's for you too.
GOOD LUCK !!

Hi I'm cindy in salisbury:) I need to be more green--alas I'm old and it is hard to change--BUT I do know that vinegar is a great cleaner--I had a friend in Mississippi who only used vinegar for years to steam clean her carpets--once dry--no smell--very fresh and no soapy residue to attract dirt! (we used to rinse our hair with it back in the stone age.) Thank you so much for you long comment telling me a bit about yourself--These bags are really very appealing--obvious by the number of comments--

Great idea! Green tip: you can clean almost anything with baking soda, vinegar, and a good scrub brush. Non-toxic, natural, and simple!

Yeah, something to use with my tomatoes and peppers! I have berries too, but I haven't mastered those yet. My biggest tip is just don't buy so much stuff. How much stuff do we replace just because? Too much. As a bonus, you will save money too!

Scour your local charity shops for all manner of super clothes and fabric, things that don't fit can be refashioned into something unique and fabulous.

Those would come in so handy! It is so great of you to give those away.

Green tip: Harvest rainwater!!! It is especially important in the desert where I am from.

oh, and my green tip is that it's a heck of a lot easier living without a fridge than people will have you believe! and as it is one of the most energy-consuming household appliances, if you think you could do it, it's worth a try!
have fun, nadia
p.s. - i shall also be reading through all these other tips with glee
p.p.s. - i have 2 giveaways going on too if you want to play feel free to, at shadowsandclouds.blogspot.com

I love these bags!
Just found a great idea for reuse of plastic shopping bags, fusion... put a couple of layers of bags on top of each other, and iron them together (with your iron on low of course!). Just tried it yesterday, and 6-8 layers produces a nice sturdy sheet. Great to sew fancy bags or baskets from! Found it on www.ijverig.blogspot.com

My favorite green tip? Milk from the farm in reusable bottles. Love it! What fabulous bags you have here!!! Thanks for being part of the giveaway.

Those veggie bags are great. I am a gardener too. My tip: I leave canvas bags in the back of my car and pull them out whenever I go grocery shopping so I don't have to use the yucky plastic bags.

My favourite green tip of course has to do with sewing. I like to make all my canvas shopping bags. Reduces the amount of those ucky plastic bags we have around the house. Never thought about making specialty produce bags. What a great idea!

a green tip: to save the water from the kids bath and take it out side for the garden

Instead of paper towels, we use cloth rags. I keep a bucket under the sink for the dirty ones and a basket on the counter full of clean ones. The basket full of clean ones is labeled "paper towels" for friends and family who are looking for something to wipe off the counter with.

So cute! Green tip: cleaning with vinegar works just as well and is cheaper!

Anonymous said...

Only one tip? How about just simply using vinegar and baking soda for cleaning? That one is each and cheap!

Mary said...

What a wonderful thing! I love those little bags.
favorite green tip: get rid of paper towels! use cloth towels that you can re-use instead.

I keep reusable tote bags in my car so that I don't forget them when I'm at the grocery. I also take the bus to work. I love your giveaway!

Sue Anne said...

The thing I do the most to be green is using the grocery sacks instead of getting paper / plastic.

Thanks for participating. I hope I win. :)

If it's yellow let it mellow.
If it's brown flush it down ;-)

Cute bags!

Green tip--Instead of buying plastic containers and plastic food bags (just more non-degradable stuff you'll eventually throw away anyway!), keep all glass jars from mayonnaise, pickles, etc and use them for leftovers. They'll probably stay fresh longer, they're prettier, and they can be reused forever!

Holly said...

Those bags are great! We use "laptop lunchboxes" that have little bento-box-like containers instead of plastic sandwich bags, etc. Really cuts down on that kind of waste.

Lisa Readman said...

I always liked the idea of using reusable bags at the store, but the ones you could buy there are not very cute. I happend apon a bag at quilting store and that inspired me to make my own market bags. I have one done and the fabric to make another. Stylish and green!

remarker/fcffollower said...

We've practically done away with cleaning products in our home since learning what combinations of vinager, water and sometimes baking soda can do!

mub said...

I love these! I try to wash my clothes at the lowest setting my washing machine will go to!

I'd love these bags...I hate the plastic ones at the store.

Green tip...save all the plastic food containers. They come in very hand for sorting lace scraps by color, buttons by size/shape/color, etc, etc. (My sewing stash looks a little like a grocery store lately!)

Also - reusable water bottles. Get a couple of nice aluminumn ones and they'll last forever.

My favorite green tip is to hang out your laundry instead of using the dryer!

I really like your bags. My green tip is to repurpose an item rather than throw it away. It is amazing how many uses I can find for something and it saves from buying another thing that in the end goes to the trash. Thanks for the giveaway.

dettonlisas@gmail.com said...

Wow! Too cute! I love the bags! I could use them for my garden!!

Katie | FashionFrugality.com said...

My favorite green tip is pretty simple - reuse paper. I work in an office so we are constantly getting paperwork that is no longer needed but was only used on one side. I hate to see it go in the trash so I bring them home and reuse them when I am printing silly stuff/coupons/etc. Just make there is nothing confidential on the paper you reuse! :)

ooh, these are great!

my best green tip is using old sheets to cut out sewing patterns. it gives purpose to old threadbare sheets, they last way longer than tissue paper, and it makes cutting out fabric a breeze!

thanks so much!

We use vinager and water for cleaning most things. Saves on money AND goes GREEN!

Love it!!

Lara said...

We've been using cloth bags, but I don't have a good produce solution...I have been working on mesh bags but these are way cuter! I think my fave green tip is homemade laundry detergent! Awesome!

My favorite tip is reusable shopping bags. I love 'em. And if I ever forget them at home I always kick myself in the butt.
