Giveaway Day
Just in time for all those fresh fruits and vegetables you'll be harvesting in the next few months I'm offering up these cute cloth produce bags. Not growing your own fruits and veges ? Then take them to the grocery store with you and use them in place of those nasty plastic sacks. These produce bags are made from flour sack material so will weigh just a tad, but not as much as the cost of an apple.

Green tip: Vermicompost! It is fairly easy way to compost in a container for those who cannot have an outdoor compost. Scraps of fresh food including veggies, fruits - no citrus, and even coffee grinds can be turned into nutrient rich humus by the worms.
Your stuff is so cute. I can just imagine all the compliments people would give someone shopping with your bags!

TIP: let your AC unit drain into a bucket instead of "down the drain"...just disengage the hose and let it dangle into a bucket. Use it to water your garden or house plants!
TIP: keep a small box or bag in your car to collect all those recycleables you get when your out and about and cant recycle...i save a lot of plastic bottles that way!
LOVE THEESE! What a great idea! My recycling tip is....All Starbuck's give away the used coffee grounds. They are usually in a basket or can in the store for you to take but if not, just ask and they will gladly give them to you. Coffee grounds are great for your plants and to add to your mulch bin.

Keep reusable bags everywhere - in the car, stroller, your purse, etc.
Hi - my green tip is remember to take your fabric shopping bags when shopping...take them out of the boot, put them in the car and then at least you are more likely to remember them before you leave the car and start shopping! I know it sounds a little thing, but the more plastic shopping bags we can reduce, the better! And use your fabric bags for all your shopping, not just your groceries! Great giveaway idea!
Adorable! My tip is to make recyling quick and easy. We do this by keeping a smaller bin in the kitchen that we empty into the bigger garage bin as it fills up.

Love 'em! My green tip... instead of buying small garbage bags for our trash cans, I use the plastic bags from shopping. When I gather enough I go back to my cloth bags, of course! I also save all kinds of scrap paper for notes, lists, quick thoughts, etc.

The bags are great!! At our house, we don't use many paper towels or paper napkins. Kitchen towels and cloth napkins in the kitchen and microfiber and old cloth diapers for cleaning.
Best tip ever: homemade all-purpose cleaner. some baking soda, some borax, some water. Cuts through grease like no commercial cleaner I've used.

Cute bags! Hmm, favorite green tip.... nothing new, but using reusable water bottles and travel mugs. It's shocking how much I used to use in the disposable stuff!
What an excellent idea these bags! Hmmm...green tip...always fill your washing machine and dishwasher as full as it can handle because it uses the same amount of electricity whether it's a full load or half load.

Green tip: recycle and repurpose - I'm always looking at items in my home that are broken or no longer useful for their original purpose, and find me uses for them. And also invest in a green cleaning guide - all household items used for household cleaning. You'd be surprised how much power baking soda has.
Love the fruit and veggie bags! Our family uses the recycling to find craft supplies...cardboard can be made into tons of neat things and glass and tin can be used as planters.

Can I admit that I'm not very 'green'? I have started recycling our paper for the kids Paper Gator, which earns money for the school. I try to keep a box in the car to put recipts, etc. in for recycling? That's all I've got, BABY STEPS! lol

I have been wanting some produce bags for the grocery store and these are so cute.
My Green tip: I use a simple vinegar and water solution to clean the house. Just put it in an old spray bottle and have a go.

compost, compost, compost! Composting seriously cuts down our garbage amount each week and has turned our no-good garden soil into beautiful, perfect for growing soil!
We reduce our waste by using cloth diapers & wipes.
These are so cute! I'm not sure if this is a "green" tip or not, but I always carry a BPA free water bottle with me so I don't have to buy plastic ones.
My fave green things to do are microfiber cloths instead of paper towels and hanging my clothes out on the line.

Favorite green tip: think seasonal and local, it's generally cheaper and requires a whole lot less energy to get to your plate, those it does limit your fruit choices in MN in the winter.
We use all natural pesticides on our garden. No chemical washoff in our backyard!

#1 Support local farms via CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or Farmer's Markets. If your food doesn't travel as far then less fuel is used to get it to you!
#2 As we are potty training our 1.5 year old- we are using cloth underwear rather than pull ups!

I've found that in using my Sigg bottle, I've completely stopped buying not only bottled water, but any other bottled drink. And I'm drinking more water, which is great healthwise.

Oh, I love those! I use the little plastic produce bags as small trash can liners though! I also resue paper grocery sacks to wrap up packages for mailing. i also keep my reusable bags in the car, that way I use then for small shopping trips as well as large grocery shopping trips.

These bags are so great! I have some pretty large reusable bags that fold up to fit in my purse, that way they are always there to use instead of plastic. And I am becoming a huge fan or resale shopping!
Tip: Use Maggie's Soap Nuts in your laundry. They're awesome! They get everything clean, keep colors bright, & are completely natural. Love them!

I collect lots and lots of packaging box. Whenever someone's birthday is coming, I just buy/make something and pick the box closer in shape and size to the present, open up all the glued sides of the box, turn it inside out, glue the box again. I resist myself using wrapping paper so I just draw on or glue embellishments to the (usually) brown box.

My green tips: get a rain barrel and use the collected rain to water your garden, choose food items that are produced locally and didn't have to travel very far to reach you and finally see things in a different light in order to reuse them instead of throwing them away.

My tip is to turn the heater down when you get home from work, and go for a brisk walk before dinner. With the exercise and the warm food, you'll be warm until bedtime!

Love those bags, so cute! I use a hot water bottle in bed when it's cold, instead of ane elctric blanket or heater in the bedroom.
I adore those bags! I would love to use these at the grocery store. I would be beaming from all the compliments they would get me. I say go paperless by signing up for online statements. Also turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth. Shave your legs in the bath tub and not while you are in the shower because the shower wastes more water than one tub of water. Also don't hang up Christmas lights they waste a lot of electricity.

Stop using paper towls. We haven't used them in years, and don't miss them at all. Use old cloths for really messy things, or just use a dish cloth and throw it in the laundry.
Also stop using so much shampoo or even go no-poo. Even for your household, vinegar, baking soda and some peroxide is all you will need in 99% of all cases.

What cute bags, this is such a great idea! My favorite green tip is to always take my coffee tumbler with me to the coffee shop. It's so simple but makes a big impact!
If your family eats a lot of yogurt, like ours does, don't buy it in individual size containers. Buying larger containers reduces the amount of plastic that will have to be recycled later. And making your own yogurt (a ridiculously easy project) cuts it down even further.

Green tips: There are so many Green things that I learned from my mother in the 1950s! : Find a 2nd use for everything. Cloth napkins instead of paper. Rags instead of paper towels. Collect "clean water" in sink and use to water outside plants. Cut up really old clothes for rags; save the buttons and some zippers. Use grocery bags for trash bags.

Cloth napkins are fun and useful! And you can show off all of those fat quarters that you have -- sew two quilting weight pieces right sides together, turn and press, then sew a fancy stitch around the edge.

This is great. Right now I just grab the fruits and vegetables (like apples or green peppers) and toss them in my cart cause I hate getting those plastic bags. These would be great. My green tip right now is to use tree-free paper! These are quite a few options on the market now, you just have to look for it. Google "Banana paper" to start.

My Green Tip - My Mother was green before being green was cool!! She ALWAYS cleaned the house with vinegar and water. Can't say that it smells lovely, but it works. I wonder if there's an herbal extract that you could add to cut the vinegar smell, but not harm your floors or counter tops..Hmmm.

My newest going green has been the starting of our home vermicompost bin. The worms are great at eating everything we don't and they are great for the kids to watch the life cycle of worms. (The babies are really cute!)

When we moved into our current home, we were forced to be a little "greener" due to our septic system. I no longer use bleach. Instead, I use grapefruit seed extract, which is a natural cleaner. I also use baking soda for just about everything. Vinegar and hot water to mop the floor, old receiving blankets have made great cleaning cloths, cloth napkins at meals, paper plates only when we have way too many people to serve off regular, compost canister in the kitchen plus a snall area in the backyard, sustainable produce purchased weekly at a farmers market, growing our own Sweet 100 tomatoes plus peppers and green beans ...
My tip is to give up all the packaged cleaners--even the 'green' and 'natural' ones. Baking soda and vinegar and a little hot water work wonders, come in bulk, recyclable packaging and are CHEAP! Those bags are so cute and I've been telling myself all spring long that it was time to make produce bags!

We reuse the plastic containers that house grocery store greens and blueberries. Whenever we get fruit or vegetables from our local organic farm CSA or the farmer's market, we wash it and put it in those containers for storage in the fridge. It works great. Love the bags and thanks for the fun stories on my blog (the apron). I was laughing out loud.

My favorite "green" tip is to reuse clothing and sheets I find at yard sales and thrift stores to craft with. I've been learning a lot about felting and being able to make things with old sweaters but I haven't tried any of it out yet.

I reuse all my sons old school newsletters for my own lists or kids to draw. hey maybe I should suggest they try emailing their newsletters now that would be the ultimate.

We started a vegetable garden, and compost all the kitchen scraps (what our composter won't take, the city will now compost!). Between that and recycling anything the city will pick up (metal, paper, some plastics), we're down to one garbage pickup a month now.
I try to use canvas bags instead of plastic... a big way to cut down on plastic. These bags are great!
I love those bags. I've been thinking about making some myself, but I'd rather win yours! My favorite green tip...boy it's hard to choose just one, but I think I'll go with the power strip. Plug everything into one, and just flip the switch when you're done and viola, no ghosting power.
I make my own cleaning products. Vinegar is pretty much in everything. What I can't make, I buy already made - laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, dish soap. I reuse all my spray containers, too. Also, instead of using paper towels to wipe my counters down, I use wash cloths.

My favorite green tip is to use old clothing to make lovely sewn things. I'm talking every type of clothing: underwear, socks, old garage-sale clothing...everything. You can make really simple bags, quilts, pillows, anything. My sister and I are making aprons and hot mits with our old fabric to give away as gifts.

Those are adorable. I to reuse my platic ziploc baggies. These seemed to get thrown out so easily. All you have to do is wash them in HOT water and they are good to go!

I recently realized that in order to use cloth napkins you don't actually need to wash them after every time they hit someone's mouth! We keep them at our spots at the kitchen table and use them for a few days (depending on what we eat!) and then just throw them in with whatever is getting washed. We used to use paper towels as napkins and we were going through a ton-- we now use less than a roll a month!
Cute idea appliqueing fruit and veggie on there. I might borrow that idea in another fashion. My green tip is pretty intuitive, I try to avoid "disposable" anything (except TP). I have switched to handmade makeup removers and wool dryer balls. It makes a world of difference.

Good morning and nice to meet you. Your bags are sharp looking... good for greens! My green tip: I just added a laundry tub to our patio, so I can wash and rinse stuff and I let the water drain in to a pail instead going out to sea... now I have *extra* water for the garden.
We are really trying to make an effort to be a bit "greener". We have started adding those awful styrofoam packing peanuts to the bottoms of our big planters - makes for great drainage, takes up space which means for less potting soil, and keeps them out of the landfill. Also, old magazines work as well - and they are biodegradable - just takes a long time!
I love my reusable coffee cup and water bottle! Love the produce bags.
I really like to use green shopping bags, and I've been able to use a great online tutorial to make the ones that I use. They are very sturdy and are the same size as regular plastic shopping bags. I have a link on my blog here:

your bags are so cute. I use reusable shopping bags. I also fill up my sink with water and rinse all my dishes in it instead of keeping the water running. It gets nasty, but that's ok! :)

Green tip eh? Well, always hanging your clothes out to dry, thats a good start! Also, when I forget to bring a canvas bag to the store, I get a paper one and use it in the trash can in my bathroom. It fits perfectly!

My favorite green tip is making fabric napkins with my son every year before school for him to use so we don't use paper. He loves it, it's a tradition and fun to see the different patterns/themes he picks each year.

We just bought a front loading washing machine. It will cut my water usage by about 2/3rds and the electricity by at least half.

I use club soda to clean glass...windows, mirrors, tables etc. My little one can safely clean with it too!

My green tip is this: Use vinegar and baking soda for EVERYTHING. I clean with NOTHING but those two ingredients! It is green and it also a very great cleaner!
Hi. darling bags! my green tip is this...save your used coffee grounds each day (i put mine in a bag under the kitchen sink)and at the end of the week, mix the into your garden soil for a super boost...especially for roses, hydrangeas, and azaleas!!!

Lovely bags and as we have got an allotment I hope they would get lots of use if they came here. My tip is get a tan and save on gym bills by growing your own veg.. very de-stressing too particularly if like us where you grow the veg is away from the house so you can't be interrupted !

We use cloth bags when we go to farmers market, or to some grocery stores. Always keeping two or three in the car is very helpful!
I haven't read all the comments, so I don't know if anyone has used this one already. We save empty fabric softener and detergent bottles, put holes in the top and use them as watering 'cans.' My kids love to use them.
